On Saturday 6th January 2018 our Deputy Provincial Grand Master, V.W. Bro. David Green, attended the Installation of the new District Grand Master of Bombay, R.W. Bro. Stephen Hindes, which was held in Pune City in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. The installation was carried out by the outgoing District Grand Master R.W. Bro. Shri Arole.

David has been going to India for the last three years at the invitation of the Mark District of Bombay, representing the Mark Province of Kent at their District Grand Lodge meeting. During these visits, many friendships have been formed and the relationship between our Province and the District of Bombay has been strengthened. David has regularly been accompanied by other Mark Masons on these visits, notably our own W. Bro. Ralph Apperley in 2016, R.W. Bro. Michael Whelan, the Provincial Grand Master of Dorset and others from his Province, in 2017, W. Bros. Bill Barr Grand Inner Guard, and Derek Lo Assistant Grand Sword Bearer from Singapore, in 2018 and of course R.W. Bro. John Gillo, the Provincial Grand Master Gloucester and Herefordshire, who makes it every year.

Commenting on the trip, David said “The meetings are a great delight. At the Festive Boards, we are always joined by the ladies in their elegant attire and we all enjoy splendid canapes before a feast of local delicacies.”

As a gift from the Province David took with him two signed copies of our Provincial History, which were donated by Mrs Stevie Bangerter, the widow of the late W. Bro. John Bangerter.

Never one to miss an opportunity for a Masonic meeting, on the same weekends, he has attended the annual meetings of other Orders such as Royal and Select Masters, the Ancient and Accepted Rite, Operatives and Allied to name but a few.

The Kent Mark Province is regularly well represented at many District Grand Lodge meetings in Europe, and as well as India; we were present recently in Singapore at their centennial meeting. The expense of these visits is entirely borne by the visiting brethren and no cost is transferred to the Province. Should you wish to join any of these parties in the future please let W. Bro. Rob Downing know and he will provide an introduction.
