Mark Family Sunday Lunch 2014

Over 100 Mark Masons and their families gathered on 18th May 2014 at the Masonic Centre, Tovil for the Annual Sunday Lunch. It was again a splendid occasion hosted by the Kent Mark Stewards Lodge No. 1691 and presided over by the Provincial Grand Master RW Bro. Archibald Torrance and his wife Mrs Maggie Torrance.

This year the emphasis was on Charity and in addition to the usual raffle a couple of auctions were held. These together raised the magnificent total of £750 and it was decided this could be match funded by the KMBF to make a grand total of £1500. The beneficiary of this amount is Hope for Tomorrow which is a Charity that funds Mobile Chemotherapy Units (MCU) around the country.

Kent were presented with the 5th such Unit in October 2013 at the Spitfire Cricket Ground, Canterbury when the PGM was present to witness the ribbon being cut to open the Unit by cancer sufferer Peter Laker, MBE, a Past Master of St Martins Mark Lodge No. 262.

It was at the launch that a Bunbury Rabbit, as produced by the Bunbury Cricket Club, was secured. The Cricket Club does a huge amount for charity having raised £15.75 million in its 28 year existence. The Rabbit was cared for during the past 7 months by Peter Laker and his wife, Sue, when it was the subject of one of the auctions and thus helped to swell the proceeds.

The donation will be made in such a way that it will also be credited to the Kent Mark 2020 Festival.

The lunch had been well organised by W. Bro. Martin Ransom and his wife Sue and after thanking everyone for their attendance W. Bro. Martin presented Mrs Maggie Torrance with a lovely floral arrangement.

Next it was the PGM’s turn and after showing appreciation for the flowers presented to his wife he thanked the organisers for arranging another superb day. Unfortunately Mrs Sue Ransom was indisposed and could not be with us this year but W. Bro. Martin was asked to give her our best wishes.
